Half-day Art Camp, Session 1: Celebrations & Architecture From Around the World: w/Ms. Christa Mecham, July 28-Aug. 1, ages 8-12
Each day, we’ll be learning about different countries around the world, diving into their unique celebrations and holidays, and even creating cool architectural pieces. Campers will listen to daily read-aloud’s from books, and explore hands-on art materials while creating various projects.
Three example projects we'll create based on these cool cultural celebrations include:
-Drawing and printing a Styrofoam skull for Mexico’s, The Day of the Dead Holiday.
-Creating a beautiful Rangoli mandala design using dyed salt for India’s Diwali Fest.
-Building a tiny, three-dimensional Fairy Door from Ireland.
Students will use acrylic paint, cardboard, tiny found objects and learn to create miniature furniture from natural elements when building their fairy door. Other festivals and holidays we’ll learn about and create will be from Egypt’s Ramadan, with the art of Henna and Islamic & Geometric Designs and China’s Lunar New Year, with the year of the snake.
If you’re passionate about art and love being creative, this is the perfect camp for you! Don’t forget to bring a snack and water bottle, and wear clothes that can get a bit messy. We’re going to have a blast!
