Goldenrod
(One of three in the Summer Ebbs, Autumn Flows series)
When summer draws to an end, she pulls out all the stops--decorating country roads with sparklers of blazing goldenrod. Monarch caterpillars grow chubby and writhe up and down the stalks of milkweed towers, munching the leaves so loudly that one can hear them if you move your ear close enough to listen. Apple trees burst with teen age fruit--still small but promising cider and the sweet smells of crisp bites come autumn.
A dear friend commissioned this watercolor trio for her daughter's bedroom when they redecorated. It's a pleasure to make a space into one's own bastion by bringing the outdoors in. Enjoy this set of nature's transition from summer into fall as a threesome, or as stand alone pieces.
