Delphinium Fairy Hats
Invite the cobalt blues of summer into your home all year with these plein air watercolor delphiniums. From my garden to your walls!
Have you ever looked closely at delphinium blossoms? Swedish-born author and illustrator, Elsa Beskow, did. She was the Scandinavian Beatrix Potter of her day and gave the fairies she painted in her picture books tiny blossom hats, often made of delphinium petals with their quirky, pointed peaks. Go look her up in your local library...
The delphinium plant in my garden is "The Queen"--the phoenix of the forest as she blooms three times throughout the summer--IF I water her regularly. Ha ha! This summer I did, and she thrived! So grateful for the last of the blue blossoms still coming into October.
This 8x9" original watercolor was painted on Arches' 140 lb. cold-pressed paper soaked in water, staple-gunned over wooden stretcher bars, and shrunk tight like a drum. Artwork may be framed, or hung as it is, gallery-wrapped.
